Introduction: Eating Disorders (ED) are behavioral disorders related to feeding with physical, social and psychological consequences. Over the years, the homosexual population has been vulnerable to rejection; due to this, they could have factors that predispose them to have an eating disorder. Objective: Estimate the association between homosexuality and to have eating disorders in young people between 18 to 25 years-old in Lima – Peru. Materials and Methods: We conducted a non-probabilistic, cross-sectional, analytical study on a sample of 177 homosexuals and heterosexuals between 18 to 25 years-old in Lima between March and April 2021. A virtual survey was applied and it contained EAT-26 questionnaire, this questionnaire measures the risk to have an eating disorder. We also applied the SDS Scale, which evaluated depression. Other variables were age, sex, occupation, and education level. Result: In this study, no association was found between homosexuality and the risk of eating disorders (PR: 2.2; 95% CI = 0.8 – 6.1). Additionally, we found that participants with depressive symptoms have 4.9 times more probability to have eating disorders than young people who did not have depressive symptoms (PR: 4.9; 95% CI = 2.0 – 11.8). Conclusion: In the present study, we did not find an association between homosexuality and the probability to have eating disorders. However, there was evidence of a relationship between depressive symptoms and eating disorders.
