Adolescent pregnancy has escalated to a problem of global concern, because although the adult pregnancy rate has decreased, the adolescent pregnancy rate remains the same. In Latin America and the Caribbean, the problem becomes even bigger as the average pregnancy rate is much higher than the world average. Peru is not isolated from the issue; the teenage pregnancy rate is even the same as the world average. This problem is so serious that it influences different fields, but the most important is on education. It has been proven in different regions that teenage pregnancy can lead to a decrease in the number of years of education due to the lack of time available to attend school. This may represent an opportunity cost for the adolescent in her future employment. This paper seeks to explain the impact of teenage pregnancy on regular basic education through an impact evaluation methodology with propensity score matching. The research is based on the Demographic and Family Health Survey for the period 2021, and the study variable is whether the adolescent is a regular student in school or if she is behind in school. The objective is to find whether this variable is affected by adolescent pregnancy. Finally, among the main findings, it was found that, in effect, teenage pregnancy has a negative impact on school achievement, reducing the years of education and contributing to the interruption of the teenager's school studies.
