Introduction: Little information exists on the association between depressive symptoms and help-seeking in women experiencing domestic violence. Objective: To determine whether or not there is an association between the presence of depressive symptoms and not seeking help in 15 to 49-year-old women victims of domestic, physical or sexual violence in Peru in the Demographic and Family Health Survey (DHS) from 2015 to 2019. Methods: A secondary analysis of the DHS conducted in the years 2015-2019 was performed. The population was women of childbearing age, between 15 and 49 years, victims of domestic violence. The independent variable (depressive symptoms), was measured using The Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) scale. The dependent variable (not seeking help) was measured by self-report. Poisson regression was used to calculate crude and adjusted PR with 95%CI (46). Results: The average age of the participants was 35 years (0.08). Women with depressive symptoms are 20% less likely not to seek help compared to those who do not (p=0.02). On the other hand, women who have depressive symptoms in 12 months are 30% less likely not to seek help compared to those who do not have depressive symptoms (p=0.001). Conclusions: There is an association between depressive symptoms and not seeking help. More studies of a longitudinal nature are needed.
