Objectives: To identify the association between the recent consumption of alcohol and/or tobacco with the elevation of blood pressure in young adults in Peru in the years 2015 - 2018. Methods: The design was analytical cross-sectional and is secondary to the Demographic Survey and Family Health (ENDES) Peru, 2015 and 2018 from INEI. The elevation of blood pressure was calculated from the measurement of two measurements of systolic and diastolic pressure, considering high blood pressure when it was systolic > 140 and/or diastolic > 90. If it was not considered normal. The consumption of alcohol and/or tobacco in the last 30 days was categorized as non-smoker “0“, only tobacco “1“, only alcohol “2“ and; alcohol and tobacco “3“. A generalized linear regression model (GLM) with linkage option and family-Log poisson was used. Results were presented in the form of PR in a crude and adjusted model, stratified by sex. Results: A total of 71,974 young adults were included in the study, 5.2% had elevated blood pressure, 9.15% in men and 1.31% in women. Conclusions: In our study we found an association between the consumption of only alcohol and elevated blood pressure in young adult males. The prevalence of elevated blood pressure in this population was 9.15% in men and 1.31% in women.
