Objective: To observe the frequency of attendance of pediatric patients who attended the Emergency Department of the Pediatric Emergency Hospital between the years 2019 and 2020. Materials and Methods: Retrospective cross-sectional observational study which used the medical records of patients admitted to the emergency service of the Pediatric Emergency Hospital between 2019 and 2020. Data on sociodemographic factors, patient condition, type of insurance and diagnosis grouped according to CIE-10 were collected. Results: During the year 2020, the emergency department of the Pediatric Emergency Hospital, had a 48.15% reduction in the number of visits compared to the year 2019, its greatest decline being during the declaration of a state of emergency in Peru. Within the demographic characteristics, we found a 7.5% decrease in preschool patients (p<0,001) and a 5-fold increase in the number of visits from other regions that do not belong to Metropolitan Lima. Likewise, a 4.42% increase in the diagnosis of “infectious and parasitic diseases“ was found and a 14.85% decrease in the diagnosis of the group of “diseases of the respiratory system”. Conclusions: A decrease in the care provided in the Emergency Service of the Pediatric Emergency Hospital was found in the year 2020 compared to 2019.
