Public health has incorporated the concept of population well-being as an indicator to measure the quality of life and development of a population. Thus, mental, physical and social well-being are indispensable when evaluating the living conditions of a community and the impact it has on society. For this, there are certain groups that are still subjected to rejection, violating their integrity and well-being. Among these, the LGBT+ community has been the target of acts of discrimination for many years for not obeying certain heteronormative behaviors, generating withdrawal and doubts about exposing their sexuality for fear of possible bad outcomes. The aim of this research was to explore how the concept of self-perception of mental, physical and social well-being varies in members of the LGBT+ community in relation to openly declaring their sexual orientation. For this purpose, in-depth interviews were established as a tool to collect the necessary information. In this way, it was obtained that people from the LGBT+ community have a positive perception of the process it took to openly declare their sexuality and that most of them feel comfortable within it. However, in many cases they did not receive support from family members, who excluded them from the family environment and demanded that they not make their sexual orientation public, as well as, and as if that were not enough, within the community there is rejection and discrimination towards select groups such as transgender and bisexual people.
