This study relates coping styles and suicidal ideation in 200 Lima university students, using the Coping Questionnaire, adapted by Morán et al. (2010) and the Beck Suicide Scale, validated by Bobadilla et al. (2004). It was found that the cognitive coping styles dimension correlates negatively with the two dimensions of suicidal ideation (Attitudes towards life/death and Suicidal Thoughts/Wishes); likewise, the coping blocking styles dimension correlates positively with attitudes towards life/death and negatively with suicidal thoughts/desires. According to Pérez-Valle (2017), the use of few resources and the absence of coping strategies are related to suicidal ideation, considering it a problem that has risen in recent years, with university students being the sector of the population with the greatest vulnerability when evidencing suicidal thoughts. Then, both variables were compared according to sex and it was found that there are no differences. However, with respect to the Suicidal Thought/Wish dimension, men have higher scores than women. On the other hand, comparing both variables according to marital status, the results indicate that there are no differences between married and single people.
