This research project was initiated in an operational need for a cyanide solution drive system, which although it was designed and built to be used throughout the operating life of the mine; the system began to present vibration and pumping system efficiency failures when the dynamic height of the leaching pads was at 60% of its capacity, so it was of utmost urgency to implement a drive system to reverse this failure condition since if it was not implemented quickly enough it would represent a high cost in lost profits for the company and paralysis of gold extraction operations. The pump manufacturer recommended changing the drive system to a more powerful pump model, with a higher dynamic head and electrical power than the existing one, but delivery times were very long and the scenario of solving the problem would become a catastrophic event from the financial point of view for the company. The optimization of the existing drive system was the best solution to the problem, for which it was necessary to adopt a project management methodology that would guarantee the operational continuity of the system in the next 6 months. It was chosen to use the global standards of the PMBOK® guide to implement them in the management of the construction project of the project “Construction Project for the Optimization of the Booster Pad 2 Drive System of the leaching process for gold extraction, under the PMI Global standards for project management“. Based on establishing a plan for the project management focused on the procurement of the project with the supply of materials, bidding and planning the project management, controlling and monitoring in the construction phase in cost, time, quality and risks.
