Objective: To evaluate the clinical results associated with adherence to the clinical practice guideline (CPG) of antibiotic therapy of the Ministry of Health of Peru (MINSA) for community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in patients under 12 years of age hospitalized in the Hospital Nacional Daniel Alcides Carrión (HNDAC) of Callao. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional analytical observational study. The exposure variable was the adherence of the health professional to the antibiotic treatment recommendations of the MINSA CPG, classified as adherent and non-adherent. The outcome variables were change of antibiotic, days of hospitalization, death, in-hospital complications, admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and readmission at 30 days. To determine the association between adherence to the CPG and the outcome variables, the chi-square and Fisher tests were performed in the bivariate analyses, and the Poisson regression was performed for the multivariate analysis. Results: 100 medical records met the eligibility criteria. 54% were female and the median age was 16.5 months. Adherent treatment was prescribed in 71% of patients. A change of antibiotic was reported in 30 medical records, of which 18 belonged to the non-adherence group and 12 to the adherence group. The prevalence of antibiotic change was 75% lower in the adherent group than in the non-adherent group (p< 0.001). No significant differences were found between the other outcome variables. Conclusions: It was observed that in seven out of ten patients evaluated, the antibiotic treatment adherent to the CPG predominates. Non-adherence to the CPG is associated with a higher prevalence of changing antibiotics.
