According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), obesity and overweight have increased in Peru and throughout Latin America and the Caribbean with an impact higher in women and with a growing impact on boys and girls. Some critical factors that trigger obesity and overweight are: a poor food culture, as well as a lack of physical activity in people. According to a report by the FAO, 6 out of 10 adults between men and women in Peru, suffer from overweight. This results in a series of diseases of all kinds such as respiratory, endocrine and heart. Currently, there is an epidemic regarding the disease “COVID-19“. According to the National Institute of Health, about 70% of Peruvian adults suffer from obesity and overweight. As an alarming fact, a press release from the Ministry of Health confirms that 85.5% of patients who died from COVID-19 suffered from obesity. As the World Health Organization states, obesity can be prevented. Faced with this problem, the development and implementation of a mobile solution was planned that can prevent the person from reaching a body mass index (BMI) greater than 25, which is the limit of the person to be considered overweight. If the BMI is greater than or equal to 30, it is considered to be an obese person. By promoting the correct food culture and frequent physical activity, users will be motivated to control their BMI below 25. The aim of the project is to implement a technological solution to prevent obesity and overweight through a mobile application that promotes food culture and physical activity. The scope of the project has been contemplated to be developed throughout the 28 weeks that comprise the academic cycles of Project Workshop, covering the cycles 2020-2 and 2021-01.
