The aim of the study was to identify the relationship between the variables that are barriers to physical activity and physical self-concept in the adult population that attends gyms in Metropolitan Lima. The sample was made up of 211 participants of both sexes (51.2% women and 48.8% men). The average age was 29.91 where the youngest participant was 18 years old and the oldest 64 years old, in addition to an E.D. of 9.16. The Physical Activity Barrier Self-report (ABPEF) (Niñerola et al., 2006) and The Physical Self-Concept Questionnaire (CAF) (Grandmontagne et al., 2004) were used for the research. The results showed that the body image dimension presented strong, significant, and negative correlations with the three dimensions of the CAF instrument. Therefore, it is concluded that physical self-concept can be seen as an obstacle to physical activity.
