As the Covid-19 Pandemic stroke in 2020, a massive adoption of bikes and electric scooters occurred in Lima, the most populated city of Peru. People saw these alternatives as healthy and efficient means of transport that could prevent covid infection and avoid bottlenecks in the main avenues, where normally citizens would spend hours to transport across the city as its bus lines and one-line train system can’t handle the demand. Actual data indicates that nearly 3% of the city is moving through the city with a bike or scooter and the trend indicates it will continue to rise, not only because to evade the traffic jams but also for its positive impact on public health and the environment. However, the city is facing a security issue: a huge wave of thefts and robbery has been unleashed. Surveys indicate that it has become the most important topic of concern to solve in the city. For that reason, many bike and scooter users refuse to leave the park outside, “even if you lock your bike to a post there is a huge fear of my bike being stolen” – that is what most users feel. To solve that problem, we have created Parkfield. This app is made to give bike and scooter users a safe and decentralized space where they can park, while on the other side, many families and small local businesses could earn extra revenue streams as they monetize unused areas.
