Sports journalism is the area of journalism that reports about main events related to sports. The information is broadcasted through mass media, such as radio, social network and television. In television, the audience has more participation in sports programs because the events can watch with more definition. In these programs, sports journalists do reports about an event in specifically, such as Olympic Games, World Cup, Qualifiers, Copa America, etc. From the point of view of discourse, the information of the reports usually incorporates elements of national identity, such as national symbols, the diffusion of ethnic diversity and/or history. For this reason, this research work has been called “The discourse of television sports journalism in Peru and the incorporation of elements of national identity”. The objective of the research is to identify how the language of sports journalism on television incorporates elements of the national identity. For this, a brief review of the history of sports journalism, its different characteristics and the importance of television in the diffusion of these elements of national identity will be explained.
