This research focuses on the analysis of the journalistic language in the printed covers of the newspapers “Depor“ and “Líbero“ about the participation of the Peruvian National Soccer Team in the qualifiers and friendly matches after the qualification for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Considering the media relevance of both, this becomes an object of study because, nowadays, sports journalistic discourse often falls into sensationalist practices. As is well known, soccer is the most popular sport in the world and our country is no exception. The Peruvian National Team of this discipline is a topic of public interest, so it is essential that readers learn to recognize between truthful, misleading and false information that covers it. It should also be noted that, unlike other studies, this one is not based on the development of information during the period covered by the World Cup. It is about the previous period: the qualifiers and the friendly matches after the qualification. There is where the expectations and emotions of consumers are more susceptible to sensationalism, since we are facing a possible merit in the midst of an economic and political crisis; in addition to the constant failure in the sports field. The purpose of this project is to corroborate, through a qualitative study, the hypothesis focused on determining whether the main characteristics of the front pages of these newspapers are exaggeration and sensationalism, however, it is also focused on generating awareness regarding the journalism we consume.
