The study analyzes the role of tattooing in the process of resignifying scars in people over 18 years old who reside in the city of Lima. The methodology is a qualitative approach and phenomenological-hermeneutic design. Interviews were conducted with 10 people who had tattooed their scars. The material was analyzed from psychoanalytic theory. It was found that tattooing is not only an aesthetic-decorative component, but transcends a repairing element operating to change the representation of self, resignify the experience, repair the bond with self and with the other and; protect against adversity.
