BACKGROUND: Sport nutrition knowledge and its relationship with dietary habits have been little investigated in underdeveloped countries such as Peru; even, the scientific literature review reveals controversy about this relationship. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the relationship between sport nutrition knowledge and dietary habits in athletes housed at the High Performance Center in Lima, considering the adjustment by confounding variables. METHODS: Analytical cross-sectional study based on census and a virtual survey that included (after a cross-cultural and idiomatic adaptation) the application of the Abridged Nutrition for Sport Knowledge Questionnaire (A-NSKQ) and the Dietary Habits and Nutritional Knowledge Questionnaire. RESULTS: The crude linear regression analyses considering the total population showed an association between principal variables (β1c=0,5; IC al 95%: 0,03 a 1,00; p=0,038) which persisted after adjustment by confounding variables such as age, sex, socioeconomic status, sport, level of education, level of competition, previous nutrition course and nutritional information (β1a=0,5; IC al 95%: 0,05 a 1,03; p=0,032). CONCLUSION: There is a possitive association between sport nutrition knowledge and dietary habits in athletes housed in the High Performance Center in Lima.
