Objective To determine the association between the screen time and the physical activity level performed in children from 4th to 6th grade of elementary school in Metropolitan Lima in the context of a state of emergency due to COVID-19. Materials and methods An analytical cross-sectional study was carried out with a total of 169 elementary students belonging to Metropolitan Lima. The research instruments were a sociodemographic information questionnaire, Screen Time Questionnaire and PAQ-C Physical Activity Questionnaire for children. In relation to the analysis of variables, Poisson regression with robust variance was used, where crude and adjusted prevalence reason (PR) were calculated with a 95% confidence interval (CI). Results Of 169 students (mean age = 10.26; SD = 1), 51.5% (n = 87) were female and 52.1% gained weight during the pandemic. 62.7% of the students used screens for more than 5 hours on a typical day from Monday to Friday, according to the Screen Time Questionnaire. The PAQ-C determined that 74.6% of the total sample did not accomplish the recommended physical activity time (PA-NR= < 2.73). In this study, no significant association was found between the analyzed variables (3 to 4 hours vs 1 to 2 hours aPR=1.27; p=0.270 and more than 5 hours vs 1 to 2 hours aPR=1.37; p=0.121). Secondarily, the number of siblings (RPa=0.81), having had household members with Covid-19 symptoms (RPa=1.33) and the time receiving remote PA workshops per week (RPa=0.53) were found to be associated with AF-NR. Conclusions The results found suggest that screen time is not significantly associated with the level of physical activity. Future research is suggested in order to analyze the lockdown impact due to COVID-19 pandemic with a major number of participants and at national level to know Peru's situation more accurately. Secondarily, the number of siblings, having had household members with Covid-19 symptoms and the time receiving remote PA workshops per week were found to be associated with PA-NR.
