INTRODUCTION: Human trafficking is a crime that generates physical, psychological, and social consequences for the victims; therefore, the institutional care provided by professionals to these people is crucial. These professionals have social representations about the victims that influence the decisions and methodology used in the care process. OBJECTIVE: Describe the social representations of lawyers, psychologists and social workers, about human trafficking victims. METHOD: A qualitative study of thematic analysis design was developed applying the semi-structured interview technique to five psychologists, four lawyers and three social workers who work or have worked with victims of trafficking (at least two years). RESULTS: Based on the experiences and knowledge acquired, the participants value the victims of trafficking as people lacking affection, distrust, with dysfunctional family dynamics and as vulnerable adolescents in search of new opportunities. Based on this, they approach their work carrying out their practice from an empathic, supportive, and committed position. CONCLUSIONS: Social representations determine professional practice in the process of caring for victims of trafficking. These influence the meaning that professionals give to their actions and the decisions made during this process.
