This research analyzed the significance the news related to education have for two of the most important newspapers in Peru: La Republica and El Comercio, as well as the journalistic approach they offer. A total of 78 newspapers corresponding to the first six months of the year 2019 were consulted to analyze 90 published notes related to education. For the analysis of the same, a qualitative matrix was used with which thematic approaches of the publications, variety of journalistic sources, relevance in the newspaper sections and the richness of the journalistic genres used were studied. The results show that there is no specific interest on the part of the media regarding education issues: a specific section has not been structured for dissemination, often being published alongside police or judicial notes; there is no varied participation of official sources of consultation to enrich the journalistic product and; in many cases the headlines respond to the search for sensationalism through conflict and controversial approach to the issues. In conclusion, it is easier to resort to the ease of linking education with tragedies, corruption or striking unions. For a country of more than 500,000 teachers, there are topics to investigate, such as innovative methodologies, renewal of educational materials, good management practices, private or public schooling, international internships, educational scholarships, specialized publications, free education and which could count on transcendence to deserve the attention of educational journalism
