In this research work, we will seek to optimize the performance of picking, by reducing or eliminating two identified problems, which are stock-out and high times to pick up products. Picking activity has great relevance within warehouse operations, since the time in which it is carried out influences substantially the order cycle. It is essential to optimize human resources, since a large percentage of storage costs and time come from labor associated with the picking activity. Given the identified problem, Lean Warehousing and cycle counting are proposed as the main solution methodologies. Also, as a support tool, it is proposed the implementation of a warehouse-based radio frequency system. Under the implementation of the current proposal, a 24% reduction was achieved in round-trip times when picking up an order and product search times decreased by 20%. Consequently, the picking efficiency increased by approximately 6%. Finally, it may be said that the increase in picking performance and efficiency can improve not only the warehouse, but also the business performance in a pharmaceutical company.
