This document examines the competitive effects generated by vertical integration based on estimates of the coefficient of market foreclosure and efficiency in the Peruvian Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) market between 2011 and 2018. The analysis of the strategic incentives of vertically integrated refineries is based exclusively on data in the hydrocarbon refining and processing stage in the industry. The measurements are made through the Pooled OLS Model applied in the data of the Ministry of Energy and Mines and the Supervisory Agency for Investment in Energy and Mining. Estimates reveal that vertical integration is associated with a vertical foreclosure effect as well as an efficiency effect in the Peruvian hydrocarbon industry, both effects are statistically significant. The foreclosure effect is the dominant effect and has a significant impact on the wholesale price.
