In the last 20 years, research has emerged in different countries on sign language interpretation training courses and the learning process of the interpreters participating in them. However, there are no studies on empirical sign language interpretation, which is a reality in developing countries where programmes to train professional interpreters have not yet been created. This research aims to describe the empirical learning process of Peruvian sign language interpreters (LSP) through the reconstruction of their trajectories obtained from interviews with Peruvian empirical LSP interpreters. A qualitative method is used to analyse the experiences of two groups of interpreters (CODA and non-CODA) to describe a model of a step-by-step learning process. This study will provide knowledge about the reality of the profession in Peru and will give visibility to the obstacles they faced as empirical interpreters in order to provide information on a topic that has not been addressed in the Peruvian context.
