Aim: To determine the prevalence and characteristics of cervical pain in supermarket cashiers of Lima, Peru. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in cashiers of five stores of a supermarket chain in Lima. A survey was applied to determine the general characteristics of the work of the cashiers and cervical pain was assessed through the numeric rating scale. A descriptive analysis was performed and one-way ANOVA was used to evaluate the relationship between the variables of interest. Results: The average age of the cashiers studied was 24 years. On average, they worked 8.3 hours a day and 38.3 hours a week, most of them working for 12 months. A punctual prevalence of cervical pain of 69.3% was found in the last three months and of slight intensity at the time of the interview, considered the lifetime prevalence (30.2%). No statistically significant differences were found between pain and hours worked per day, weeks, age and total time of service as a cashier. Conclusion: The occupations that involve repetitive and sustained movements as is the case of the cashiers studied have a high prevalence of cervical pain. That is why it is important that companies have an occupational health area that carries out preventive activities to reduce the risk of cervical pain in this type of work.
