Both obesity and depression are widespread problems with important socioeconomic and health implications. Objective: to determine the association between obesity and depression in outpatients of the Hospital de Apoyo II Santa Rosa - Piura, 2022. Methodology: an observational, prospective, cross-sectional, analytical, prospective study was carried out; non-probabilistic convenience sampling was performed to interview 385 outpatients required for adequate statistical power. A data collection sheet was prepared and the Patient Health Questionnaire was included to assess depression. Statistical analysis was performed using Stata v17.0. Results: 385 patients were interviewed, 87% (n=355) presented some degree of depression, in addition 91.2% presented obesity and depression. The female sex was the most prevalent with 73.7%. The mean age of patients who were obese and had depression was 38 years. The secondary level was the most prevalent with 47.2%. Obesity I with 39.10% was the most outstanding degree associated with depression. Conclusions: There is an association between obesity and depression (p=0.04), increasing 2 times the possibility of depression in those patients with obesity (OR=2.395). Monthly income and physical activity are the two main socioeconomic factors associated with depression
