sepsis.
To determine if hypocalcemia is a prognostic factor for mortality in patients with sepsis Material and methods: An observational, analytical, retrospective cohort study was carried out in which 286 records of adult patients over 60 years of age diagnosed with sepsis admitted to the Medicine Unit of the Trujillo Regional Teaching Hospital were included. in the periods 2017-2019, according to selection criteria which were divided into 2 groups: patients with hypocalcemia and without hypocalcemia, applying the relative risk, and the chi-square statistical test, hypocalcemia was defined as calcium <1.10mmol/L Results: Of the 286 patients evaluated, 143 presented hypocalcemia, of which 58.2% died and 43.9% survived. On the other hand, of the 143 patients who did not present hypocalcemia, 41.8% died and the remaining 56.1% survived. When the results were submitted to the criteria independence test, it was found that there is a significant relationship between the variable hypocalcemia and mortality. (x2=5.160 p=0.023, RR=1.3922 95% CI 1.057-1.833), the relative risk of mortality was 1.3922, which indicates that a patient with sepsis with hypocalcemia has 1.3922 times more risk of mortality than a patient without hypocalcemia. In the multivariate analysis through binary logistic regression, the statistical significance for hypocalcemia as a predictor of mortality in patients with sepsis is corroborated. Conclusion: Hypocalcemia if it is a predictor of mortality in patients with sepsis
