To determine if the increased abdominal circumference is a risk factor for inadequate metabolic control in diabetics treated at the Belén de Trujillo Hospital Material and methods: A prospective, analytical, cross-sectional study was carried out, which included 102 patients diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus who were treated during the period February 2023 - July 2023 at the Hospital Belén de Trujillo, who, according to selection criteria, were divided according to whether or not they have increased their abdominal perimeter. The chi square, the prevalence ratio statistic, and logistic regression were calculated. Results: The frequency in patients with increased abdominal circumference with inadequate metabolic control is 89.6% while the group of similar patients, but with adequate metabolic control is 31.5%, thus having a statistically significant relationship. Using logistic regression, it was identified that abdominal circumference and obesity, as intervening variables, are statistically significant, where it is evident that increased abdominal circumference has a P value of 0.000 (OR: 16.957), obesity has a P value of 0.001 (OR: 7014). Conclusion: The increased abdominal circumference is a risk factor for inadequate metabolic control in diabetic patients.
