This investigation evaluated the influence of ash from sugar cane burning in addition to 5%; 10% and 15% in water-cement related manufactured concrete 0.40; 0.45 and 0.50 in the corrosion potential of ASTM A615 steel embedded in concrete manufactured with Portland cement type I exposed corrosive environment. The main purpose of this study was to determine the optimum percentage of ash produced by burning sugar cane in addition to the concrete mixture for the protection of embedded steel in exposed corrosive concrete environments. For this study the percentages of ash in addition to the concrete mixture were 5; 10 and 15 % by weight of cement and were elaborated in three water-cement ratios (0.45, 0.50 and 0.55). Cylindrical specimens of 3 inches of diameter by 10 centimeters of height were made, these were filled with concrete and placed steel A615 of ½“ suspended in the bottom by 2 cm, this one being located in the center and having a total length of 16cm. The purpose of these specimens is to simulate the coating of steel in typical masonry buildings in Peru. To evaluate the corrosion potential of this embedded steel, we followed the ASTM C876 standard, which indicates that corrosion potential values reaching -350mV are more than 90% likely to be corroded. In the ratio a/c= 0.40 the value that took the longest to reach -350mV was the mixture to which 5% was incorporated. In the ratio a/c= 0.45 the value that took the longest to reach -350mV was the mixture to which 5% was incorporated. In the relation a/c= 0.50 the value that took the longest to reach -350mV was the mixture to which 0% was added.
