Abstract: Determinar si en pacientes con COVID-19 la menopausia constituye un factor de riesgo para mayor severidad de la enfermedad y mortalidad.
Materiales y métodos: Se realizó un estudio observacional, analítico de cohortes retrospectivas, para ello se identificaron a las pacientes que fueron admitidas y fueron hospitalizadas en Emergencia del Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo por presentar COVID-19 durante el periodo comprendido entre noviembre del 2021 y abril del 2022, con y sin diagnóstico de menopausia; el grupo de menopausia fueron 160 pacientes y el grupo sin menopausia fueron 160 pacientes.
Resultados: La edad promedio en ambos grupos fueron 50,63 ± 2,70 y 47,94 ± 2,96 (p = 0,001); las variables grado de instrucción, la paridad, el IMC, el IMC categorizado, el uso de CPAP o ventilación mecánica resultaron estar asociadas a la presencia de menopausia. Los hallazgos de laboratorio encontrados al momento de ser admitidas a emergencia, en ella se puede apreciar que el recuento de leucocitos (12359,83 ± 5207,85 vs 10242,81 ± 4185,38; p = 0,001), la glicemia (158,31 ± 96,48 vs 132,01 ± 75,93; p = 0,007), el pH (7,35 ± 0,19 vs 7,40 ± 0,04; p = 0,002) y el nivel de lactato en sangre arterial (1,16 ± 0,65 vs 0,78 ± 0,31; p = 0,001) estuvieron asociados a la presencia de menopausia en comparación con aquellas sin menopausia. La proporción de mortalidad en cada cohorte de estudio (46,25% vs 13,75%; p = 0,001), con un RR (de menopausia para Mortalidad) = 2,01; IC 9% [1,65 - 2,45].
Conclusiones: La menopausia resultó ser un factor de riesgo para mayor severidad de la enfermedad y mortalidad en pacientes con COVID-19
To determine whether menopause is a risk factor for greater severity of the disease and mortality in patients with COVID-19. Materials and methods: An observational, analytical, retrospective cohort study was carried out, identifying patients who were admitted and hospitalized in the Emergency Department of the Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo for presenting COVID-19 during the period between November 2021 and April 2022, with and without a diagnosis of menopause; the menopausal group consisted of 160 patients and the non-menopausal group consisted of 160 patients.
