In Peru, and especially the province of Virú, the lack of adequate road maintenance management has caused road networks and local roads to have a “fatal” cycle, which includes construction, abandonment, excessive deterioration, collapse and its reconstruction. On the Lower Frontón - El Carmelo neighborhood road, we can see the great difference in cost involved in not intervening on a road in time, allowing its deterioration to develop and postponing its maintenance or rehabilitation. This phenomenon triggers the need for costly rebuilds after a long period of operation with service levels well below the recommended standards to provide the user with comfort and safety on their trips. An upgrade can cost about nine times more than timely routine and periodic maintenance, and a rebuild much more. Hence the importance of implementing the most appropriate road maintenance management model for the circumstances, which allows the entities involved to optimize resources over time. In the present investigation, the Frontón Bajo - El Carmelo Neighborhood Road, Virú District, of approximately 6.1 km, was analyzed, which will serve as a model, to apply an adequate road maintenance management, which will reduce the costs of vehicular operation and costs of road maintenance, for this, information was collected from public and private institutions such as the local government of Virú, where historical information was collected on the studies prepared and the interventions carried out, on road management systems, levels of road maintenance, execution modalities , vehicle operating costs, road maintenance costs, rehabilitation and reconstruction and improvement, which are important contributions in this research. Finally, the proposal is put forward, explaining the road maintenance management model, which allows a significant reduction in the costs of vehicle operation and road maintenance.
