The present research called ““Soil Zoning Study for the Design of Surface Foundations in the Campiña de Moche sector, Trujillo, La Libertad““ was developed with the aim of studying, identify and evaluate the types of soils present in the urban area of the sector, to determine their carrying capacity. The research is descriptive, not experimental transversal and according to its orientation is of applied type, in which we will use the data collection and use of the regulation to obtain the results. Applying the fundamental concepts of Geotechnical Engineering and Soil Mechanics, the study is based on the results of field, laboratory and cabinet work, in accordance with standard E.050 of Soils and Foundations of the National Building Regulations (RNE); to determine their physical and mechanical properties by means of the strategic location of the exploration points, obtaining a total knowledge of the stratigraphic profile of the area. Using the Terzaghi and Meyerhof criteria in the design of surface foundations, the carrying capacity of the soil was obtained, developing zoning maps of soils for structural purposes in order to recommend the appropriate type of foundation within the study area, avoiding settlements, building failures and, therefore, affecting the quality of life of users
