Objective: Determine if onychomycosis is a risk factor for diabetic foot in patients treated at the Belén Hospital in Trujillo. Materials and methods: Our study was analytical, observational, case-control type with retrospective direction, our sample was 93 patients, of which 31 were patients with a diagnosis of diabetic foot and 62 patients without said pathology. Which showed the complication of diabetes mellitus such as diabetic foot, where after registration the history of onychomycosis was verified, to be able to observe if it is a risk factor for this complication. Results: The present study had 93 patients, of which 31 had a diagnosis of diabetic foot (cases) and 62 patients did not have said diagnosis (controls), of the case group it was evident that 54.8% (17) had a diagnosis of onychomycosis and 45.2% ( 14) did not present onychomycosis, while of the control group, 27.4% (17) had onychomycosis and 72.6% (45) did not have onychomycosis, after comparing both results an OR 3.2 (95% CI 1.31 - 7.91) was obtained. It was also statistically significant with a (p 0.01). On the other hand, neuropathy and vasculopathy were risk factors and were associated with diabetic foot, with an OR 5.06 and 67.43 and (p 0.001) and (p 0.000) respectively. Conclusions: Onychomycosis is a risk factor and is associated with diabetic foot in patients treated at the Belén Hospital in Trujillo during January 2017 to December 2022. In addition, neuropathy and vasculopathy were also risk factors for the development of diabetic foot
