The objective of this research work was to determine the relationship between the level of self-esteem and the level of depression in cancer patients undergoing outpatient chemotherapy, at the Regional Institute of Neoplastic Diseases, Trujillo 2022, a non-experimental methodology was used, applied and of a correlational type in a sample made up of 136 patients diagnosed with cancer who received outpatient chemotherapy treatment. To measure the level of self-esteem variable, the Coopersmith self-esteem evaluation questionnaire in cancer patients was used. The results show that 51.5% of patients have medium self-esteem, while 31.7% have low self-esteem and 16.8% have high self-esteem. Also, for the depression level variable, the Hamilton Depression Test instrument was used. The results show that 74% of patients have a very severe and severe state of depression, while the remaining 26% are moderate and not depressed; In addition, 74% of patients with low to medium self-esteem present severe and very severe depression, which indicates that levels of depression and levels of self-esteem are significantly related, through the Chi-square coefficient of association (X2=121,962), confirming the researcher's hypothesis.
