To determine whether the aqueous extract of Hibiscus sabdariffa ““flor de Jamaica““ flowers has a hypotensive effect on Rattus rattus var albinus with L-NAME-induced hypertension. Materials and methods: A study with an experimental design was carried out using 28 rats, randomly distributed in 4 groups (L-NAME+HS-250mg/kg, L-NAME+HS-500mg/kg, L-NAME, and INACTIVE control). After the adaptation period, they were induced with L-NAME (40mg/kg), and the treatment groups were administered Hibiscus sabdariffa (HS) extract at the indicated doses for 4 weeks. The blood pressure (mmHg) and weight (g) of each specimen were measured weekly. Finally, data analysis was performed using repeated measures multivariate analysis, analysis of variance, and Tukey's test. Results: HS extract at a dose of 500mg/kg showed a greater reduction in systolic and diastolic blood pressure (SBP and DBP) than at a dose of 250mg/kg with respect to the L-NAME group; also, it was evident that the behavior of BP throughout the administration was unstable, being higher in DBP in the L-NAME+HS-250mg/kg group. Also, there were different SBP trends with Hotelling's Trace (p=0.036 <0.05) and Roy's Maximum Root (p=0.002 <0.05) tests. Finally, differences between groups were found in SBP (p=0.002, <0.05) and DBP (p=0.005, <0.05), evidencing the hypotensive effect of HS. Conclusion: The aqueous extract of Hibiscus sabdariffa flowers at a dose of 500mg/kg has a significant hypotensive effect on Rattus rattus var albinus with L-NAME-induced hypertension
