To determine if the dysfunctional family is a factor associated with the beginning of sexual life in adolescents of the 4th and 5th year of secondary school of the I.E. Ricardo Palma of Trujillo. Material and methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in 91 secondary school students, according to selection criteria which were divided according to the presence or not of family dysfunction, for which the determination of the odds ratio and its corresponding 95% confidence interval. Results: It was found that the dysfunctional family is a factor associated with the beginning of sexual life in 4th and 5th year high school students with an odds ratio of 5.49, which was significant (p<0.05); In addition, the percentage of dysfunctional families found by the survey was 25% and functional families was 75%; the frequency of onset of sexual life in 4th and 5th year high school students was 29/91 = 32%; The distribution according to type of contraceptive method of choice in 4th and 5th year students with the beginning of sexual life was: condom (76%); blister (14%); pill (7%) and hormonal implant (3%). Conclusion: The dysfunctional family is a factor associated with the beginning of sexual life in adolescents of the 4th and 5th year of secondary school of the I.E. Ricardo Palma of Trujillo.
