OBJECTIVE: To determine if the peri-operative prophylaxis antibiotic norms in emergency abdominal surgery are met in Cayetano Heredia and Reátegui Delgado Hospitals, july-december 2018 Piura. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A descriptive, cross-sectional, retrospective, observational, analytical (comparative) study was carried out. Antibiotic prophylaxis in emergency abdominal surgery has been fulfilled in both hospitals. Medical records whose writing was illegible are excluded. The analysis was performed in the statistical program SPSS-22. RESULTS: A sample of 102 patients was evaluated in 6 months, obtaining 70 patients from Cayetano Heredia Hospital (HJCH) and 32 patients from Jorge Reátegui Delgado Hospital (HJRD); predominantly men in 52.9% in HJCH and women in 65.6% in HJRD. The most commonly used antibiotic prophylaxis in HJCH is ciprofloxacin plus metronidazole in 41.4% and in HJRD in 15.625%, demonstrating a breach of the antibiotic prophylaxis of 91.4% in the HJCH and 62.5% in the HJRD, statistically significant (p <0.05) and a risk factor of OR (32.2) 95% CI. The clean-contaminated wound occurred in 77.1% in the HJCH and 50.0% in the HJRD. The duration of surgeries less than 60 minutes if it is fulfilled in the HJCH and the duration of surgeries greater than 60 minutes is not fulfilled in the HJRD. CONCLUSIONS: It was breached with the guide Essalud in both hospitals secondary to different use of antibiotics and duration of surgery.
