The present thesis consists in a traffic study of José de Lama Avenue located in the city of Sullana, in order to determine the deficiencies that the roadway system suffered and to offer proposals for improvement to the road problems that take place in this important avenue and its signalized intersections. The study is based on the manual data collection through a vehicle count in the José de Lama Avenue with their intersections of study (with the Dos de Mayo Transversal, Marcelino Champagnat Avenue and Panamericana Norte), the study was carried out in intervals of time of 15 minutes the 12 hours of the day during the period of 7 days, with this it was possible to determine the factors of hour of maximum demand in each intersection, concluding that for the intersection of José de Lama Avenue with Dos de Mayo Transversal, Marcelino Champagnat Avenue and Panamericana Norte peak time factors were 0.98, 0.90 and 0.99 respectively. The manual data collection allowed the simulation in the Synchro 8 software, in which it was possible to determine the most optimal light cycles for each intersection under study. The methodology applied in this research was provided by the Road Manual “Highway Capacity Manual 2000“ (HCM 2000). From which the traffic light cycles of each intersection could be determined. The results obtained were that the intersection of the José de Lama Avenue with Dos de Mayo Transversal, with Marcelino Champagnat Avenue and Panamericana Norte has a traffic light cycle of 42 seconds, 69 seconds and 65 seconds, a delay time of 25 seconds, 33 seconds and 12 seconds with a service level of C, D and B respectively. Finally, a comparison of the results obtained in this investigation is shown, the chosen proposal will be presented as an alternative solution to reduce traffic and pedestrian congestion in the José de Lama avenue.
