To determine if hygiene habits and their quality are associated with vaginal discharge syndrome in medical and nursing interns at Hospital Belén de Trujillo. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional, observational and analytical study was carried out, where 94 inmates of the Belén de Trujillo Hospital were included, from June to October 2022, who answered 2 virtual questionnaires. Pearson's Chi Square test was used to determine the association between variables. Results: A significant association (p < 0.05) was found between regular and poor quality hygiene habits with vaginal discharge syndrome. Regarding hygiene habits, 71.3% of the inmates presented good quality, 27.6% presented regular quality and 1.1% presented poor quality hygiene habits. The prevalence of vaginal discharge syndrome in the inmates was 13.8% and within the sociodemographic characteristics it was obtained that 88.3% were between 22-29 years of age, 94.7% had an urban origin and 89 4% were single. Likewise, after analyzing the intervening variables, it was found that only the onset of sexual life before the age of 19 presents a significant association with vaginal discharge syndrome (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Regular and poor quality hygiene habits are associated with vaginal discharge syndrome in medical and nursing interns at Hospital Belén de Trujillo.
