The present thesis called “Application of problem-based learning and its influence on the academic performance of the students of the specialty course in oncology nursing of the III cycle of the Los Angeles Chimbote Catholic University, 2019“ describes the results that enable the development of skills cognitive, comparing, organizing through the issuance of judgments, critical analysis and thus be able to make decisions in the face of the problems that are presented to us. The active learning method, focused on students, such as PBL, can be of great benefit and optimize academic performance, especially in health careers. The objective was to determine the impact of the use of active methodologies and to give an innovative proposal such as Problem-Based Learning. The methodology was explanatory level, pre-experimental, quantitative and transverse temporal design. The population consisted of 20 students from the specialty course in oncology nursing; the manipulated instruments were the qualified practice and the observation sheet to determine the academic performance of the students after applying the methodology (ABP). The level of academic performance in the students prior application of the methodology (ABP), was 30% in the minimum category, 55% in the medium category and 0% in the excellent category, observing a trend of medium to minimum academic performance. The level of academic performance after the application of the methodology (ABP) was 30% in the outstanding category and 60% in the excellent category. It has been concluded that the application of the PBL eloquently important the academic performance of the students of the Oncology Nursing Specialty with participation through active instruments and scientific presentations, whether group or individual, allowing a marked change in the evaluation process. It is suggested to implement active methodologies in the different courses of the Oncology Nursing Specialty, also considering other factors necessary for learning.
