To determine if there is an association between hiatal hernia and Helicobacter pylori infection in patients attending outpatient gastroenterology in a primary care hospital during 2018-2019. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This is an observational, analytical study with a cross-sectional design. The research population consisted of 204 patients divided into two groups: those with hiatal hernia and those without hiatal hernia, who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The elements of the sample were selected according to the data record review according to the values obtained from each electronic medical record, which were attached in the data collection protocol annex. For the association of the factors and the variable, the non-parametric Pearson's Chi-Square test was used, and the Student's t-test for the quantitative variables. These tests were considered significant if the p-value; α= 0.05. RESULTS: According to the statistical analysis, no significant association was identified for hiatal hernia and Helicobacter pylori infection (Pearson's X²= 0.001 p= 0.971), being associated with the obesity variable in relation to hiatal hernia (X2= 10.566, p= 0.001) CONCLUSIONS: Hiatal hernia is not associated with Helicobacter pylori infection in patients who attended an outpatient gastroenterology clinic during 2018-2019.
