Objective: To determine if hyperglycemia is a factor associated with mortality in patients with community-acquired pneumonia. Material and methods: An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted, evaluating 193 patients diagnosed with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) treated in the emergency services of the Regional Teaching Hospital of Trujillo during the period between January and December 2018. Results: The average age in the group with NAC who died and did not die (69.17 ± 16.07 vs 68.41 ± 19.77, p = 0.898), there was higher hyperglycemia in those who died vs those who did not die (128.67 ± 76.06 vs 119.58 ± 61.18, p = 0.669). A lower PO2 / fiO2 was also found in those who died than in the group that did not die (212.84 ± 120.01 vs. 302.17 ± 112.77, p = 0.016). Higher creatinine was observed in patients with CAP who died compared to those who did not die (2.29 ± 3.01 vs 1.26 ± 1.88, p = 0.105) Conclusions: Hyperglycemia was found to be a factor associated with mortality in patients with community-acquired pneumonia with clinical significance, however no statistical significance was found as shown in the studies mentioned.
