The objective of this research work was to determine the relationship between maternal sociocultural factors with the abandonment of exclusive breastfeeding at the Laredo District Hospital. The study was applied cross-sectional, the sample consisted of 80 mothers who attended with their infants under 6 months, an instrument was applied for data collection consisting of a questionnaire to measure maternal sociocultural factors and abandonment of exclusive breastfeeding, obtaining the following results: In the 52.5% predominated the age between 18 and 29 years, in 53.8% the primary level prevailed, 60% were cohabitants, 66.3% came from the rural coastal area, 48.8% were dependent workers. Likewise, 56.3% of the mothers did not give exclusive breastfeeding while 43.8% did give exclusive breastfeeding during the first 6 months. Therefore, it was evidenced that there is a significant relationship between sociocultural factors: level of education and occupation with the abandonment of exclusive breastfeeding (p=0.013, p=0.00). But no significant relationship was found with sociocultural factors: age, marital status and origin (p=0.098, p=0.516, p=0.719)
