To determine the relationship between the level of symptomatic assessment with dependence and self-care in patients with advanced cancer. Material and methods: The present study is cross-sectional, analytical, carried out in 233 patients diagnosed with advanced cancer admitted to the Pain Therapy and Palliative Care Unit of IREN Norte between the months of August 2022 to February 2023. The data obtained were represented in tables, for the qualitative variables the frequency tables were used. Spearman's correlation coefficients (rs) were determined and the degree of correlation was established as low rs ≤ 0.40, moderate 0.41 ≤ rs ≥ 0.69, or robust 0.70 ≤ rs ≥1.00. Likewise, the Prevalence Ratio (PR) analysis was used to establish associations between the symptomatic assessment and the other variables under study. Results: Of the 233 study participants, regarding the symptomatic assessment according to the ESAS scale, 48.1% were moderately symptomatic and 18.4% were severely symptomatic; Regarding the degree of self-care according to the ECOG scale, 36.1% were symptomatic and regarding the degree of dependency according to the Barthel index, 28.8% moderate dependency. In addition, a moderate, positive and significant degree of correlation (r = 0.414; p = 0.000) was evidenced between the level of symptomatic assessment and the degree of self- care and a negative and significant degree of correlation (r = -0.373; p = 0.000) between the level of symptomatic assessment and the degree of dependence. In addition, according to the Prevalence Ratio analysis, symptomatic assessment was significantly associated with the degree of self-care (PRa = 1.43; 95% CI = 1.32 - 1.55; p = 0.01) and with the degree of dependence (RPa = 1.16; 95% CI = 1.05 – 1.29; p = 0.01). It was evidenced that the level of symptomatic assessment was positively associated with the degree of self-care and negatively with the degree of dependency. Conclusions: There is a significant relationship between the level of symptomatic assessment with the degree of dependence and self-care in patients with advanced cancer.
