In recent years, the El Niño phenomenon has considerably affected the town of Shirán, affecting some homes, but above all its crops. The main objective of our project is to determine the areas with the highest probability of flooding, with respect to the marginal strip within the section 1 km upstream and 1 km downstream of the Poroto bridge on the Moche River, in order to later design a riparian protection. For the design of said river defense, the behavior of the Moche river is taken into account, and the information on said river will be useful for said purpose. The flows were analyzed for 3 return stages: 50, 100 and 500 years respectively, but the flow associated with the 50-year return period was chosen, which is 458.42 m3/s, which was taken due to design issues and recommendations given by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, for river defense projects for rural areas. For the design of the riparian defense system, we base ourselves on knowing the scour mechanisms, which is 0.75m. The absence of knowledge of the erosive processes produces failure in the protection system. At the end of our work, we determined that said area requires a riparian defense of the rock-filled type, due to the fact that floods occur in the Moche river, as a result of the rains, which generate elevations in the river level, which have the following dimensions; width 60m; necessary height is 3.50 m; crown width 4 m; wet face slope is 22:1 and dry face is 1.5:1 and toe depth should be 2m. Thanks to this river defense, the crops of the inhabitants of said area, which is the economic livelihood of their families, would be adequately safeguarded.
