The objective of the research was to evaluate the effect of paico essential oil, administered orally, in broilers as a preventive treatment for coccidiosis. 96 broilers of the Cobb 500 line were used, which were distributed through a completely random design, with 3 treatments: DBSA (base diet without anticoccidial) DBCA (base diet with anticoccidial) DBAP (base diet plus oil of paico), four repetitions for each treatment and 8 birds per experimental unit. Productive parameters were evaluated: feed consumption (g / g), weight gain (g), feed conversion index (g); count of Eimeria spp oocysts in feces and evaluation of intestinal lesions of Eimeria spp. For the statistical analysis, ANOVA analysis of variation was used, and the Tukey test to compare differences between the treatments (P <0.05). It was shown that birds given the essential oil of paico via oral and coccidiostate in food, after coccidial challenge in bed, did not obtain statistical difference in production parameters and oocyst count in faeces, but in the evaluation of intestinal lesions, demonstrating better control of the disease with the dose of anticoccidial in diet
