This thesis report, titled ““Development of a Traffic Model for Main Avenue in the Santa Margarita – Piura Urbanization,““ aims to create a comprehensive vehicular traffic model for Main Avenue. The key objectives are to consider the inventory of signs along the avenue, assess the density of vehicular traffic, and develop a traffic light system based on the 2016 manual for control devices. This investigation is justified by the lack of adequate control devices to facilitate smooth vehicular flow on Main Avenue in the Santa Margarita – Piura Urbanization. Upon observation, it was noted that the study area lacks both vertical and horizontal signs. Furthermore, the existing vehicular volume on this avenue has increased significantly due to population growth, resulting in severe congestion. To address these issues, the proposed methodologies included conducting a survey of vertical and horizontal signals, performing a manual vehicle count for seven days, 24 hours a day to obtain the IMDA, and employing the Webster method to determine an optimal periodicity for traffic lights. The Synchro 8.0 program aided in developing the traffic model, and the study area's horizontal and vertical signaling was proposed based on the control devices manual. The obtained results consist of the traffic model generated using the Synchro 8.0 program, a suggested signaling plan, and an optimal periodicity for the traffic lights along Main Avenue. In conclusion, the investigation revealed the existence of 20 vertical signs throughout the section, no horizontal demarcations, and 36 intersections with Main Avenue. The IMDA for 2022 indicated the number of vehicles per day. The proposed signaling plan involved the installation of 83 vertical signs and 47 horizontal signs, all compliant with the regulations outlined in the 2016 control devices manual
