Objetive: To Determine whether the variables gender, survival, patient service origin, admission shift, days of mechanical ventilator use, presence of complications, and a high severity score are associated with the increase in ICU care costs at Víctor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital in 2022. Materials and methods: A retrospective cohort analytical study was conducted, involving 107 ICU patients from January to December 2022. Relevant variables were collected, and a patient-specific costing of their stay was performed. The Chi square test (X2) was employed to assess the association between variables. The relative risk was estimated with a 95% confidence interval, accepting a significance level below 5% (p < 0.05). Results: Admission shift, service of origin, and severity score are associated with an increase in daily costs in the ICU (p < 0.05). A high severity score (APACHE II, SOFA) has a relative risk (RR) of 2.249; 95% CI [1,545-3,274] for an increase in daily costs in the ICU. Mechanical ventilation, presence of complications, admission shift, and severity score are associated with an increase in total hospitalization costs in the ICU (p < 0.05). The presence of complications has an RR of 2.532; 95% CI [1,513 – 4,239] for an increase in total hospitalization costs within the ICU. A high severity score has an RR of 1.383; 95% CI [1,084 – 1,765] for an increase in total hospitalization costs within the ICU. Conclusion: The variables service of origin, admission shift, and severity scores are associated with an increase in daily costs. The variables presence of complications, admission shift, and severity score are associated with an increase in total hospitalization costs in the ICU at Lazarte Hospital in Trujillo
