To determine whether alkaline phosphatase is a risk factor for complications in patients with acute cholecystitis attended by the emergency department of the Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo. Material and Methods: The medical records of 324 patients with a diagnosis of acute cholecystitis attended at the Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo between 2015 and 2020 were analyzed. Those presenting complicated and uncomplicated acute cholecystitis were determined, and in each of them it was studied whether alkaline phosphatase values were elevated or not. The data were processed in Excel and analyzed inEPIDAT 4.2 and SPSS Statistics 26. Results: Of all patients with acute cholecystitis that were studied, 66.67% did not present complications and 33.33% did present acute cholecystitis with complications. of all patients with complicated acute cholecystitis, 92.6% presented elevated alkaline phosphatase and 7.4% presented normal alkaline phosphatase levels. the relationship between elevated alkaline phosphatase as a risk factor for complicated acute cholecystitis was found to be statistically significant (p<0.001). Conclusion: The presence of elevated alkaline phosphatase is an important risk factor for complicated acute cholecystitis.
