The present research entitled “Determinants of private savings during the period 1980-2020“ which aims to know the determinants of private savings during the period 1980-2020, based on theories developed by various authors on the link between savings, taxes, nominal interest rate and disposable income. For this research, the theories of Keynes (savings according to income, which is broken down into GDP and taxes), Franco Modigliani and Richard Brumberg (savings according to the interest rate) are considered. An econometric model is estimated with statistics from the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP), data from the World Bank (WB) and annual reports of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP), whose dependent variable is private savings in Peru expressed as a percentage of GDP and as explanatory variables the gross domestic product per capita, nominal interest rate, tax collection, lagging savings and a boost variable. According to the results obtained, it is evident that the nominal interest rate and tax collection are not significant to explain private savings, but the gross domestic product per capita is; that is, private savings respond to the behavior of gross domestic product per capita; concluding that income significantly influences private savings.
