Objective: To determine the association between hypothyroidism and rheumatoid arthritis in patients of Belen of Trujillo Hospital in the period 2015 - 2018. Material and methods: A retrospective case-control study was conducted in which 200 adult patients were included, according to selection criteria, which were divided into 2 groups: patients with rheumatoid arthritis for the case group and without rheumatoid arthritis for the group of patients the controls; applying the odds ratio and the chi square statistical test. Results: The frequency of obesity, diabetes mellitus type II and dyslipidemia was significantly higher in the group of patients with rheumatoid arthritis than in the group of patients without rheumatoid arthritis. The frequency of hypothyroidism in patients with rheumatoid arthritis was 12/50 = 24%. The frequency of hypothyroidism in patients without rheumatoid arthritis was 14/150 = 9%. Hypothyroidism is a factor associated with rheumatoid arthritis with an odds ratio of 3.068 which was significant (p <0.05). Conclusion: There is an association between hypothyroidism and rheumatoid arthritis in patients of Belen de Trujillo Hospital.
