The present investigation was to compare two archwire ligation techniques to biofilm in patients with fixed ortodóntico appliances with respect to the number of colony forming units. The prospective, longitudinal, comparative and experimental study was carried out at the “OrtoSalud“ Dental Center and the Antenor Orrego Private University - Molecular Microbiology and Biotechnology Research Laboratory and included a total of 20 patients who require fixed orthodontic appliances and were selected by a non-probabilistic sampling for convenience. The analysis of the samples was carried out in two times, as provided by the manufacturer and four weeks after its placement. Averages, standard deviations, minimum values and maximum values were calculated. The comparison of the binding techniques on the biofilm was performed using the Wilcoxon test of the signed ranges. The statistical significance considered was 5%. No significant difference was found when comparing two binding techniques on the biofilm with respect to Streptococcus in patients with fixed orthodontic appliances.
